FARE THEE WELL DE' MATHEW
The kikuyu benga music star and icon John Mwangi Nganga popularly known by many as John De'Mathew will be finally laid to rest.De Mathew will be laid to rest in a send off ceremony that is expected to be attended by various dignitaries including president Uhuru Kenyatta,at his home county,Muranga.
De Mathew was born on 1st June in the year 1967 at Gathiru-ini village,Mukurwe Gatanga constituency,Muranga county.He was born to the late Mathew Nganga Kagai and late Lucy Wanjiku Nganga.De Mathew had 2 wifes,Sarafina Wairimu John and Caroline  Waithira John and has left behind 7 children.
The star in his life time, has had composed and recorded alot of superb work.Some of his songs are Peris Nduku recorded in the year 1988 and in the recent years he has had recorded track like "Tucemanagirie bara".In 2019,he had recorded "Arume twi na u".His favourites songs though have been "Pin number" and "Mwoyo ti Kibandi".
Demathew has been a stout fighter of musician's rights especially when it came to issues of monster piracy.Notably,by heeding to the president's advice,he had ocharstrated the formation of (TAMCO) talented musicians &composers sacco on 19th January 2019.This was achieved through collaboration with his fellow artists like Peter Kigia, Ben Githae, Loise Kim among others.
Through his leadership, the sacco within 7 months has had bought land at Kenol,Muranga county worth of 10 million shillings and plans to engage Equity bank in developing the land were underway.
The good work he has been doing has seen him win several awards.In the year 2000,he won Soya awards-Runners up album of the year, music composer association.Again in the year 2001,he won Top Kenyan singer-Soya crown(best song of the Year)"Urathi wa Ama"and the album of the year.In 2018,he won head of state commendation(HSC).
The iconic singer died in an accident along Thika road near blue post hotel on his way home from a medical harambee of his friend Peter Kigia.He was rushed to Thika nursing home where he was announced dead on arrival.His two wifes have eulogised him as loving husband who has left a wide gap that cannot be filled up.
