2019 POPULATION &HOUSING CENSUS KICKS OFF.
National census has already kicked off country wide with the pre-listing happening on 22rd and 23rd August ahead of the actual exercise set to take place on the night of 24/25th August.The exercise will further extend to 31st of August 2019.
This will be eighth national census exercise to be conducted in Kenya.The first census to be conducted was back in the year 1948,followed by others in 1962,1969,1979,1989,1999 and 2009.Since 1969 to date, Kenya has undertaken censuses after every 10 year perid.
This exercise helps the government to establish the total national population and their standards in aim to ease planning for its people.Also,this census will also try to compare the number of people that was listed by mass huduma number registration exercise to get the variation.Everyone is expected to participate in the exercise by accepting to be enumerated.
The government of Kenya has cleary expressed and showed alot of devotion in making this exercise a success. For instance, the government extended the school opening days in order to allow children to be at home during the exercise.Also the interior C. S Fred Matiangi has issued an order to have all the bars closed in the nights of 24/25th in an attempt to ensure everyone is indoors during the nights of census.Anyone one who will be found violating this order will face the long arm of the law,according to the security boss.
However,this order from Matiangi has not been well received by some people who had planned to spend the nights of census outdoors for their leisure and other activities.Other night gatherings have also been suspended during the nights.Further in some counties, even the day time gatherings that are likely to extend into nights or in one way or the other affect people's sobriety due to their nature have also been barred.
Security has been well catered for.During the census nights,the Area Manager together with the enumerators are going to be in company of a security officer to counter any act likely to affect the exercise.Issues of insecurity was witnessed in Wajir yesterday during the census pre-listing exercise.This was after Wajir North mp and enumerators were attacked by un identifed gun men in Masalale north,leaving the Mp's vehicle burnt to a shell.The mp was summoned to shed the light about the attack that will aid the police with investigations.
While everyone has been urged to ensure full participation in the exercise,the followers of KAVONOKYA denomination have been stirictly and categorically warned against any attempt to sabotage the exercise.Further various leaders have urged their people to give correct and clear information as this is only what will help government in identifying the conditions of its people and improve where necessary.#Jitokeze Uhesabike!
